Mayor announces plan to ensure every Chicagoan is counted in census 2000

Mayor Richard M. Daley today announced a comprehensive plan to make sure every Chicago resident is counted in the 2000 Census, so that Chicago will get all the population-based state and federal assistance it's entitled.

"In the 1990 Census, we are certain that Chicago was undercounted by at least 159,000 residents," the Mayor said at a news conference at the Austin Town Hall, 5610 W. Lake St., in one of the Chicago communities that suffered most from the undercount.
